I feel this is very possible and traders can get into trance like conscious state.

I see lot of parallels between market ticker and a hypnotists.
Here are few things:

Market ticker: traders intensely stare at the blinking screen and tune out everything else.
Hypnotism : patients intensely stare at a pendulum or eyes or some objects and tune out everything else.

Market ticker: I find it hard to make objective decisions when watching ticker, which is very obvious in the evening (or to the friend watching near by).
Hypnotism: person is in trance and starts to give up logical thinking and believes what ever hypnotists say...

Market ticker: logical brain is suspended, greed and fear takes over often
Hypnotism : logical brain shuts and person enters into trance.

Market ticker: after the trance, in the evening all mistakes are crystal clear.
Hypnotism: after waking up from trance, patient can see the world objectively again!

just wondering...
has anyone thought in this line ???

Very true... Hypnotism to the extent that can make you forget your Set up, Money Management, Rules, Dicipline, Lunch/dinner.. and worst.. going to the Washroom :)

I think I have stumbled on something very important.

I did some Googling and came to the phrase "slot hypnosis" related to casino slot machine.

few ways to avoid such passive trance state:
* have a bell or alarm to remind you to wake up from trance every now and then!
* schedule breaks, breath and distract yourself from screen...
* Have good sleep and have good rest

another related phrase "highway hypnosis" which happens during long drives...

another keyword : "zoning out"...

I think when people zone out... no matter what their knowledge about trading nothing can help them in the time of need!

I haven't had such opportunity as I do not trade on very short time frames , so don't look at screen continuously but surely I must say that you have pointed out a very nice effect which may occur with traders. I would like to experiment with myself .

Yes this does happen with me that is why I dont look at the trading terminal for long.

I already have a buy or sell price set, I execute my order and then quickly log off.

every trader has a different unmet need from d mkt n hence a set of beliefs based frm past experiences.
♦a trader who has say lost a gud amont of money in stock mkt may b very cautious n feel anxious abt his future wch may glue his eyes on d screen 2 watch out fr any SUSPICIOUS activity:D
♦ for a trader who is disciplined n confident,d ticker wil b as usual as brushing his teeth fr him.
♦fr a trader whos family ,financial or social life is in mess may b hynotized by d ticker wch in fact may provide him an escapement method frm d abv problems wch otherwise wud hav tested his selfworth n esteem if he wud hav responded on to working towrds solving d life problems.by perceiving himself as HYPNOTIZED towards d ticker,he is ready wid his response wen being dragged to solve d problems like :
: i dont hav time.
: i wil do it aftrwrds.
:tell him 2 do dis time.
:my mood is bad.
:dont bother n distract me fr ,i m busy trading n dis time i wil win d mkt:D
