to start let me answer mine.
I was fascinated by the price blinks on the screen and so many best brains in the world fighting out there. It was the lure for freedom basically ( yeah making money on my own terms, being my own boss and slave to none) and add to it the satisfaction of beating others in their own game made me a trader.Although the initiation was by accident, it was via IPO.:D

;)To know the mindset of others.Because that is most pertinent.Hope pros understand the importance.
Love to the subject.

Love to analyzes.

Love to read charts.

Love to option and future strategies.

Love to the intellect of the game.

Dislike of risk.

Dislike of being controlled from others.

Income.

Being in charge of my self.

Just to mention a few points which occur at glance.

Probably I am the odd man out in this forum. But this is a question I have been trying to answer to myself and I think I have the answers which I would like to share.
I have retired as a very senior corporate executive almost 10 years back. From the day I retired, friends and relatives have been asking questions about my plans after retirement much like one asks a student after he graduates. They were aghast when I would reply that I intend to pursue my hobbies and I have many.
I was enjoying my several hobbies when one my young relatives who is an IT professional suggested that I take a trading terminal at home . I had absolutely no idea about what trading is, but I found the suggestion interesting.
Now, coming to the answer to the question - the reasons why I trade (not in order of importance)
*It keeps me current with the corporate world which was a major part of my life till I retired.
*I wanted to learn a new subject.
*Although I am an engineer ,I was always fascinated by finance
*Trading is intellectually stimulating
*Spirituality is another subject which is of interesr to me, market teaches you to keep equanimity in all situations.
*If you learn to manage R/R ratio, you can earn (additional) income.
*I can relate with the youngsters (including my son who is a senior corporate executive) better.
*I can keep mental and physical problems at bay.
*There is excitement every day and there something to learn .
*Derivatives is a vast subject and one can choose how deep one wants to dive into it.
* I have fascination for numbers , charts, graphs and such things.
Only thing which I have not tried yet (and which I want to learn) is trading softwares. I have plans to try that after I have made some progress in basic trading.
Thanks for starting an interesting thread,

I/m just making some extra money. It doesn't take to much from me, although from time to time it is big cherry on top of my life cake

Working for a company for a salary gives you steady income, but growth in income is dependent on external factors.

Investing in the stock market for the long term is rewarding, but it has its UPS and DOWNs (literally).

Trading gives me the best of both worlds -

1) Steady income
2) Growth, dependent solely on my ability.
3) Rewarding in the long term
4) No UPS and DOWNs in networth (portfolio) because of the ability to short the markets and make money.
