Folks I am curious to know how profitable day trading really is .... I mean , how many day traders (say out of 10) make profits in the medium /long run My wild guess is ... maybe just 2 or 3. Remember the hurdles all day traders face (some common to those faced by longer term investors) namely : - the bid/offer spread - the limited time they have to cover/ unwind - brokerage - largely unpredictable intra-day market trends (yes ; and if you know anyone who can predict such trends even 3 or 4 days out of 10, hats off !) Am I right ? Perhaps some successful day trader of this forum can share his/her insights into this statistic, and more important, share tips on how he / she makes money from this activity with a high ratio of gains:losses Thanks in advance AGILENT

Hi,
These tips are really educative. Thanks a lot. I am an absolute novice.Today is my 2nd day in the market. I would like to ask these questions : 1) I see a stock which is oversubscribed a lot thru ipos and I dont get it.SO is it advisable to grab whatever amount i planned to invest on IPO in first 5 minutes of its opening? 2) what is this trend called? a stock moves down for 3 consecutive days and suddenly it starts increasing 4th day...may by 1% or 2%...is it an uptrend? is it adivisable to buy after it increases by 2%...or sud we wait to check if it goes down again? 3) How can one predict an exit price. I see some suggestions where exit price is highier than the high which was previosly achieved or highier than its resistance.i guess these could not be predicted using charts but mainly depend on external factors like a company getting a huge project etc....or am i wrong? 4) Also I have been hearing a lot on keeping stop losses. Is it advisable to come out of a stock even before exit price is reached.Consider ppl suggest an exit price of 10% increase.I have reached 5% and within couple of days it comes down to 2%.IS it advisable to sell it off at that point or should we wait till stop loss is reached? Thanks a lot!! Regards vivek Last edited by vivekshankar; 29th April 2006 at 11:01 PM. |
