Default Morality of trading: Gambling or business?

Friends,
I am facing a major problem with my trading(in future and options). I feel trading is gambling and I am doing a wrong thing, but at the same time its my passion and I am doing it in a disciplined manner as a business with proper business plans etc and find it very fulfilling and satisfying.

So what do you think trading is : gambling or business?

Bhavnesh, have you ever considered the mortality rate of other business? A difference, perhaps, in "other" businesses is that, owing to the fact that the pace with which the transactions are carried about is slower, the attrition rate of capital is also slower and hence, seems a lot safer....which of course is very similar to trading with longer time frames.

oxusmorouz, I was talking about morality, it whether is is morally correct or not to trade, not about mortality.

Creditviolet, gambling = jua or betting, which our parents have taught us is v bad.
business = buying something and selling it at higher rate.

But difference is that in business its a win/win situation, while in gambling money goes from one mans pocket to another.
So trading f/o is probably gambling and trading stocks is probably is business.
But my problem is that when I trade stocks, I definately lose money, and when I trade f/o I definately gain money. but then I feel guilty conscious.

This morale mind set has to be sorted out by you with yourself .
F&O & Cash ,the logic given by you is not acceptable, can we not roll over eternally like holding a stock in cash segment & in cash segment also is'nt it a zero sum game.
If trading is your additction & you itch for it other than your income motto, then it is definitely sitting on the thin line of gambling & business in your mind set.

No uasish, its not addiction, its my passion in life, its like i was born to be a master trader. Its more than income, it gives me reason and fullfillment which best jobs or creative work gives. Its like the satisfaction you receive on painting a masterpiece.

Its just that our parents have taught us that gambline/jua is wrong, so it sometimes gives me guilty conscious. But speculation is much more than gambling. Its not roll of dice or roulette table, you need lots of hard work.

What is the difference between Trading and Gambling

I think in stock market if you don't follow any logic and betting on luck its gambling. becuase to study stock market and its behaviour needs a lot of mental hard work as it is involved in any kind of job.

But if you are not doing any thing and just following your luck in the market then its reason to be some what gulty as you can do similar betting for India Vs Pak match. Again it is not driven by the Greed but more by Passion and money follows , We hope but not always greedy some what i find it different from any other lottery system which can be a core gambling.

Core Gabling is just putting your money as you do in lottery driven by Greed and Hope. No hard work No passion Involved.

Any way Life itself is a big gamble cuz the luck always follows us.
So I like Passion and Hardwork with Luck
Not just Greed with Luck.

thanks surfingmind and uashish,
I think the bottomline is that:
1. if you are not addicted to trading
2. If you treat it like a business and have passion for it and do hard work
then its allright to speculate and its not gambling.

I was just reading ganeshshitty's post in the jokes thread. Clearly each ones point of view will be different.

Bottom line , if something disturbs you why do it?
