Average stop loss percent on your trades and Percent of trades that do not hit SL

#1
Hello Dear Traders,

I am new to futures trading and testing my system in commodities and nifty futures. As i am trying to improvise my system i have some questions which i thought i should share here and get opinions from senior ppl and also new traders.

1) What percent of your total trades are winning trades (which do not hit SL) and on an average and over a long period of time, what is this percentage for successful systems that you have heard/read about..

2) What is the average Stop Loss percentage on your trades for various futures and also please specify which timeframe candles/bars you use
what is the avg SL for nifty futures along with timeframe of bars for nift, for Crude, For metals so on... ?

dear friend,
% age of winning trades shd depend broadly on ur trading style...meaning thereby, if u are taking short term trades fr a quick profit, u wd need 2 have a very large %age of winners in order to offset ur trading costs as well as a few loosers. on the other hand if u are taking speculative trades where u are aiming for a much higher profit than the amount u are risking, u can do very well with even 25 - 50% of ur trades being profitable, anything above that wd be a huge bonus..

defining avg. SL % age across the board is very difficult because each underlying instrument wd have a different volatility and I keep my sls according to the volatility of the instrument.
just to give u a hypothetical eg. bnf is around double the price of nifty. on days one may trade nifty with a 30 point sl but correspondingly a 60 point sl may be inadequate fr bnf.

hope u get the jist

regards
