Hello
For the trend to be ur friend u have to know the timeframe u are trading.If it is intraday it is absolutely useless to watch a 1year historical chart to follow anything.

Its only in the last leg of final wave that the phenomena u mentioned takes place as far as I know.The fifth wave is very universal I say for the market in general.Almost all stocks are in movement then

Bluechips are wild because of their liquidity.The effect of short term trading is seen on them

Maggie and Edwards book on Technical analysis is full of examples at 2-3 different places which state many stock that are against the general market trend. Do you mean to imply that such occurences happen during the last wave normally?
