Technical analysis when the market is trading side ways

Hi,

I would like to know from you all what TA will be useful when the market is trading sideways, which graphs will generate meaning ful information.

And also what is the time period we need to consider for analysis during intraday trading and for medium to long term trading.

Please suggest.

try bollinger bands with stanndard settings. but how do you know when is the ranging market starting and ending ?

Hey Rajeev,

In case charts suggest you that markets are sideways and you can make use of Oscillators like Stochastics instead of trend following indicators (Moving averages) to determine your entry and exits. Also be aware that the profit potential per trade is generally smaller in a sideways or ranging market.

Indicators like "BBSqueeze dark" and Damiani Volatmeter 3.2 could save one from the whipsaws markets. But these Indi's are for META TRADER 4 platform. For Amibroker users i know not.

When market is moving sideways you can try to identify some chart pattern which will help you to decide if previous trend will reverse or continue. You can also use oscillators (RSI, MACD, Detrended Price Oscillator, Chaikin Oscillator, Price Oscillator etc).

when market sideway (ADX<20), only Divergence can be used.
