Praveen - I am not an experience PF guy. But I am seasoned software pro who has immense interest and uses technical analysis to buy and sell few shares making some profit and some loss here and there. So if you can elaborate about PF. I can surely help.

Plz chk out this thread where Vikas has given a excel sheet with macro that creates P&F chart (I am not sure if it is 100% correct or not but certainly worth checking).

http://www.traderji.com/technical-analysis/34059-point-figure-chart-excel-sheet.html

Also chk out other posts in the thread.
I also use P&F chart. but mainly on NIFTY, and one the best free source for that is Stockcharts.com site of john murphy which can draw P&F for nifty EOD.

I think, Amibroker / metastock etc already have this feature. Though one of the best P&F oriented TA package is updata.

Happy Trading

Thanks. I will have a look. I do not have Amibroker/Metastock and neither intend to buy them (probably I can afford it) or use cracked version. Instead I will make one to help all others like me on TRADERJI

Why to reinvent the wheel. when God has given us Google.

Check out this excel sheet.
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/h.quenet/p_fchart.xls

It needs OHLC data on one sheet, and by click of button, it creats the P&F chart on other sheet. The macro is not protected.. so if you are into programming, u can enhance it further.

If you are willing to share the final output, then I am happy to share my ideas about possible improvements in it.

Happy Trading

dear AW10 and kdhrubo,
Thanq for your suggestion and advice....above mentioned links are giving box sizes in % terms with respect to current price levels. But in the charting system i follow box sizes are fixed for a range. say for 14 to 29....0.5 ,
30 to 60...1, 62 to 140...2, 145 to 290...5, 300 to 600....10 , 620 to 1400...20, 1450 to 2900....50.

These are the steps in constructing a chart.
1. Box values are assigned as per our scale given above....
2. we will examine the OHLC data for day1..we will see whether 3 boxes can be filled...if 3 boxes can be filled and the day close is above the middle box we will mark 'X' in the 3 boxes.
3. After filling up first column we will consider only day high and day low to construct the chart. we have to check if day high is sufficient to fill another X if it is not sufficient we have to check the day low is enough to mark a 3 box reversal. i will give one example kdhrubo so that you can understand better.

35 38 35 37.5 ....day1 37 37 35 36....day2 in this case we will mark X from 35 to 38 from down to up becasue the close is above mid way and on day 2 we will check day high and low only and find that additional X can not be marked so we will check the low ...we will check whether the low is enough mark 3 box leaving 38 box ...so low should at least 35 or less to mark a 3 box reversal ...and day2 low is 35 so we will mark 'O' from 37 , 36, 35 from top to bottom.
we will daily follow the same routine. The philosophy underlying this system is it denotes supply and demand of a stock...if the recent column is in X then stock is in demand and prices move up and if recent column is O then stock is in supply price tends to move down....There is no time scale in this charting only price is considered ...but usually beginning of months are marked with numbers from 1 to 9 for JAN to SEP and A B C for october november december.
3. 4 kinds of trendlines ...bullish support and resistance , bearish support and resistance can be drawn...
4. i will explain buy and sell signals and stop loss points later.
5. price targets also can be calculated in this charting..albeit price target may or may not meet. Kdhrubo i think it is better to talk over phone..please send me your no. to [email protected]
ALL THE BEST
