Buying stocks while nifty is in a downtrend

I have one question in my mind. Is it good to go long on any stock if the index is falling? Say, I found some good stocks through technical analysis while nifty is falling, should I buy into them with proper stop loss or should I avoid trading during the period or should I go short?

Sooner or later, almost all the stocks will move in the direction of the index. Therefore the probability that you will pick a stock that deviates from this behavior is low. It is better to trade in the direction of main index.
