Default World Markets - Volatility Comparison

Let us compare the volatility among world markets. You will be surprised to know that we are the least volatile in % terms ie the % change in ATR reading from the previous peak as compared to now.

Markets compared are: Dow, Nikkei, FTSE, Hang Seng and BSE.

Not surprising to me I had noticed this earlier. (Although i haven't compared the charts but from casual observation it seems the Shanghai index is the least volatile; which is surprising given the fact that valuations are richest in the Chinese mkts. The reason for this i think is that their mkts are driven mostly by domestic money with limited FII presence). But even our mkts are at a 52-wk high when it comes to volatility. The VIX is at an all time high.

Regards,
Kalyan.
