Default Pre-requisites for trading(Hardware and software)

Hi,

I am an experienced forex trader now looking towards stock trading.

Can all the wise stock traders make a list including hardware, such as a Computer, UPS etc, and software?

I have often found that quite a few people start investing in markets without having these pre-requisites and end up losing.

HARDWARE.....Atleast p4 pentium,windows xp service pack2 ,512 RAM is recommended.

ups...if you face frequent power cut.....better go for both ups and invertor .

software..... : obviously METASTOCK.....because most of them use it.
data feeds...... do you need real time data or end of day data???

Internet connections: at least two,if one fails you can switch over to other.

lastly, most important thing is if you go on surfing internet your system will slow down badly due to spyware and allsorts of unknown code getting automatically loaded in to your pc.. and frequent hangs of operating system....

question is how you keep it neat and clean is the issue to be solved.

it is very essential that your system never hang while trading..( this is one of the reason why i recommend 512MB RAM)

Enjoy trading ...

Hi suba,

Thanks for the input. I think that takes care of evrything.

I think 'data feed' should include both EOD and real time.

Hi,

Yes I do have the requisite hardware already.

The hardware that I am running:

Pentium Celeron
1GB RAM
1 hour battery back-up
Inverter to support computer and internet connection for 24 hours.
2 Internet connections(Airtel and a LAN connection incase I dont have power for ADSL modem or any other problem)

I learned the importance of hardware when I got my account wiped out because the battery back up ran out just as the NFP came out.
I went through the forum and found that nobody has really asked this question which i believe to be essential for anyone to succeed trading on any online platform.
I needed to know the neccessary software for stock trading and thought that the hardware part would benefit any one who is new to online trading.

for dual monitors u can use matrox graphics extenders or ordinary graphics cards with DVI out with a monitor that can support digital output. u can also use an extra PCIE based graphics card along with your primary on board graphics, for other tech specs see www.thinkdigit.com/forum
for ordinary use dont go for expensive directX10 based cards (if u r not running Vista). the GFX 6600 with 256MB ram will be sufficient

multiple tf/fractal trading systems
Then seriously look into amibroker/wave59 instead of metastock
Amibroker is capable of opening a metastock chart faster than metastock itself....
Metastock = 16 bit maruti 800
Amibroker = 32 bit ferrari
But if you're gone drive the app with a data feed that doesn't support amibroker properly then you will have issues. So the choice of application also depends on your choice of data feed+analysis tools that u already have or need.

Power inverter+ ups + dual dsl are essential in india i guess.
Never needed it here in germany , my dsl dies maybe on 3 days each year.
I keep a phone near by with the cell number of my broker+ one other guy at his office just in case my net dies.

Thanks a ton rajak. U bombarded me with all much needed information.

Earlier i had not even idea wht it is .

I have no words for this help.

once again thanks

thanks for everything
