Dear members,
I am enclosing 2 charts in MS word: http://**********.com/files/14059344/StochRSI.doc.html Both the charts contain data for the nifty, and the same expert (a stochastic rsi where the stochastic is smoothed using an exponential MA ...the zig zag indicator isn't used). The only difference between the charts is that the 1st chart has 500 bars loaded and the 2nd chart has around 3000 bars loaded... As you can see, the symbols given in both the charts differ significantly...the reason perhaps being that the exponential moving average gets smoothened with more data. Please tell me how I should tackle the such a situation where the indicator value changes with the data loaded... Thank you, Oxy |

Hi Oxy,
I am not sure how MS calculates EMA. I mean, what is the starting point. If EMA is calculated from the very first bar in the database then there should not be any difference. If it is calculated from the first bar loaded then there will be a difference depending on the number of bars loaded. The effect of earlier data persists for quite long time in EMA. Whereas in Simple MA the effect persists only for the period of the MA. Therefore, the difference you observe may be due to the amount of data loaded. You can verify this by loading some other number of bars, say 1000 or 200 etc. Regards -Anant |

Hello Anant,
Thank you for your reply. I tried modifying it to simple MA instead of EMA and yet, signals vary depending upon the data loaded...I'm completely confused now!! Here is the formula for the 1st indicator (with EMA): (RSI(Tema(Mov(Stoch(33,21),3,E),2))) And here is the formula for the 2nd indicator (wits SMA): RSI(Mov(Mov(Mov(Mov(Stoch(33,21),2,S),2,S),2,S),2, S)) I have eliminated both TEMA and the EMA from the formula and yet, the indicator value varies... ![]() EDITED: Solved.
