Default Profits in Trading Nifty

Hi ,

I need some guidance from the experienced traders in this forum...

About 5 months back I shifted to Nifty Trading(future n options) and found it very interesting...
I basically do positional trading with a holding period of 2-3days.

Till now my winning/losing trade ratio has been 1:1....Except for the first month I have managed to make a profit of about 10-12k/month..
Please note I am not a full time trader and have a modest trading capital of 2.5L...That is 4% returns on a monthly basis...I am working hard and trying to improve every day..

..I want to know ...what are good standard returns one can
expect(ideally)...I know this is a subjective question...Just I want a barometer so that I can weigh my performance...People please share your experiences..

There are many "analysts" claiming to make 400+ points in a month from Nifty...I wonder if this is actually achievable(probably yes with experience, but donno)..
Do normal full timers make 200-300 points with Nifty..??

Just want to know your views to gauge myself...

Regards,
Abhay

Hi Abhay
In my experience on an average anything between 175 and 250 points per month is achievable provided you have a good system and you follow it point by point. It is true experience counts a lot to be a successful trader.

hi abhayt, you should be happy that you are consistantly earning that much. Easy way to ruins from here is to envy others' results/earnings and trying to double your trading size!!

Dont believe those who boast of huge returns-- they will never tell you their losses!! Over a period of time, most are losers.

Keep doing whatever you are currently doing-- keep earning consistanty-- returns will simply compound over period of time. Nothing can beat the power of compounding. In an urge to earn more, if you step up risk, you will end up losing big.
Returns are directly proportional to Risk, till bankruptsy!

Just to reiterate what others are saying, dont go by words of others....You never get to know the downsides.

Assume a risk-free asset gives you around 7% per annum. Trading in NIFTY futures is much riskier and therefore theoretically you should be happy with 25-30% return per annum. Not to say you cannot earn more, but if you are aiming for more, be prepared to lose more as well. It is never going to be a one way traffic.

you are doing ok...do u know how much 4% on a monthly basis is when compounded...win-loss of 1:1 is good provided the amounts are good and expectancy is in your favor.
if u want to tune up, just read thru this forum...position trading is not 2-3 days, nor is fibo a system...its a tool...read brilliant posts by saint, ajay, amitbe, creditviolet and others in this forum...it'll clear a lot of things.
and yes why would any analyst be an analyst if he can consistently make 400+ on nifty. in twelve months on one contract it becomes 12 * 100 * 400 = 480000.
and yes if u r not a full time trader, be very careful when u trade nifty futures.
happy trading

Hi Abhay,

I believe you are on the right track. If you can generate 4% return consistently on a monthly basis, then you are following a good system. I would suggest you not to increase your volume, just to get higher returns. Better try to tune up your system. But I believe staying with a system that gives less no. of buy / sell signals that are true rather than a system that gives lot of signals but some of them are false.
