Unhappy NRI in USA need help with PAN Card

NSDL has now made it mandatory for all NRI also to have a PAN Card to maintain a demat account in India. But I don't know how to get it. I finally found an online application form on UTI web site. But the form is asking for an address in INdia and proof of my address like a "ration card".

I don't live in India and do not visit very often. I don't have any "ration card" and my address is from USA on my existing bank account & Demat accounts.

I have already sent e-mail to "tininfo@nsdl.co.in" and "www.nritaxservices.com " without any response. I am not getting much help from my bank. Please help - how do I get PAN Card sitting in USA.

You should not send e-mail to a web site address, e-mail addresses are of the form aa@bb.cc.

The post above by pkjha30 gives links to a recent thread where I asked exactly the same question.

I got my PAN card within a few weeks via the nritaxservices web site, cost USD40 via demand draft.

PAN card by itself will not do ... needs to be photo pan card , or PAN with Photo id .

Hasn't Kotak already explained to you ?

Are there two kind of PAN cards available in India? One with photos and one without photos?

Yes I have a photo PAN card , but my wife cd manage only a letter
... so she has to give some photo id proof besides her PAN.

And if NSDL feels that is not good enuf, her acct will get frozen.

So basically, I guess that after 27th ( deadline) u may find a sudden shortage in supplies, and market may rally just on that for a while

Just a wild guess...who knows

A PAN letter is not a PAN card. Your wife can apply for a PAN card with the PAN letter and she will be issued a PAN Card with the same number. This PAN letter thing belongs to the time when PAN letter were used to be issued first and then PAN card used to arrive in 6 months and the Chai-Pani rate was Rs. 600. When you talked of Photo PAn Card first, I had a hunch that it may be related to PAN Letter.

Its better to be safe than sorry.

Best Regards,
-Ashish
