Formula to determine the Cost Price for Break even

#1
Hi,

I am a new trader, I tried figuring this out myself, but couldn't. So I am hoping if someone can help me out on this one:

I would like a formula with which one can find out how much should the selling price be for both intraday and delivery for break even, for a given brokerage,

In deriving the formula I was trying to use the selling price same as cost price to calculate the brokerage and other taxes levied on the squaring off trade.

For ex: my brokerage is .05 for Intra and .5 for delivery.

So if I buy a share at certain price I would like some number that I can multiply its cost price to arrive at a breakeven price (approx) for intraday and delivery.

I guess there could be others also who might find this info helpful, so if someone takes pains to derive the formula, it'd be really helpful for other members if you could post for other common brokerage rates, for ex:

Intra: .02, .03, .05 paisa, and,
Delivery: .2, .3, .5 paisa

Thanks in advance guys :)

P.S. The reason I couldn't derive it was I want to include everything, all the other taxes like STT, regulatory charges, Stamp duty etc..

Take it like this...

For Intraday,

Statutory levies is 4 paise per Rs. 100/- + your brokerage i.e. 10 (5*2, buy+sell) paise. So total of 14 paise per Rs 100/-. If you bought one share worth Rs. 100/- you just need 3 tick to BEP (approx)
Stock price, BE cost
100, 15 paise
200, 30 paise
300, 45 paise
400, 60 paise
...............

I hope you can keep this in mind, as you remember/know 2+2=4

Note: I have taken all charges including buy brokerage, sell brokerage, stt, stamp, reg. charges, sebi charges, ser. tax etc...

:)

How is BE cost 10 paisa for 100 rupees? 10 paisa will be my brokerage only, (5 paisa buy, 5 paisa sell) isn't it?? In addition to it there are all the other taxes.

I hope you can keep this in mind, as you remember/know 2+2=4
I didn't get your point...were you just being sarcastic or am I missing something??

Yeah, you are right...

5 paise for buy, 5 paise for sell...
2 paise*2= 4 paise per 100 as statutory levies
So, total of 14 paise or three tick to get break even

Sorry for the confusion, Just calculated on one side as if you are getting charged on one side. Its good you noted.

Statutory levies is approx. Rs. 19/- per lakh (50k buy and 50k sell)

I didn't get your point...were you just being sarcastic or am I missing something??
Hey, I am not sarcastic man...

Just I was saying we can remember 'em easily as we remember/know the answer for 2+2.... (It's easy to keep how many ticks per 100 rather than confusing yourself with formula)

Highlighted in yellow is the cost to get BE (excluding brokerage)

In snap, value includes buy and sell (i.e. 50+50 for 100; 100+100 for 200.....)

Now that makes it a lil easier :)

Just few more questions:

What is a tick? :) I have heard this term before, tried searching for it, didn't get a clear answer.

Secondly, are all the other charges same for delivers?? i.e 2 paisa/100??

In NSE/BSE, one tick is 5 paise. Minimum price movement......
Price increment in multiples of 5 paise....

No no no no... its only for intraday in capital market.

For delivery statutory levies will be Rs. 140/- per lakh.

Here we can take the whole value as buy or sell.....
