Default NRI PAN Application - Attesting Documents

I am an NRI living in the UK.

I was wondering to what level my proof of identity and address documents for a PAN application need to be attested?

A relative of mine (also in the UK) got the documents attested by a notary public, the Foreign Office and then the High Commission.

Getting the documents attested by three different parties is a time-consuming process! According to my interpretation of the guidance, I should only need to have them attested by the High Commission.

I'd be grateful for any guidance from NRIs (particularly in the UK) who have been through the process with regards to how the documents should be attested.

Thanks,
Neal

Talking Re: NRI PAN Application - Attesting Documents

NealA,

I am NRI from thailand. I just sent my PAN application by EMS. what I did was, went to their website and applied online and i got the acknowledgement number. I printed out and attached copy of passport as identity and for proof of residence. I obtain(got) residence certifcate from the indian embassy here in bangkok. To get the Residence Certifcate, I had to write an application letter and attached with my passport copy and work permit. I got it done in the same day.

I went through this process . Just wait and see . I guess it should work... will keep u updated on this.

And Finally I got my PAN card on 31/3/2008
Regards
Aneel

According to me the best thing you can do is, get an resident certificate/letter from the indian embassy. That should work. Even i have applied and its been 1 month . I had send an enquiry to them and they replied me back that its been verified.

Hello,

I am a NRI in USA and wish to apply for PAN card. What documents will I need for proof of address and do they have to be attested by Indian High Commission in USA?. When they say passport can be used as proof of address- does it mean it should have your residential adddress written?

Thanks.

Do I have to get copy of passport attested by Indian Embassy?

Can I as NRI get them attested by a gazetted officer in India while I am in India?
