My Portfolio....!

I always wanted to build a portfolio that i can slowly add on every month. But I lack patience. As a pure intraday player, I am used to getting quick results. Either my SL or my tgt or my exit always hits within 15 min to max 2-3 hrs from initiating the trade.

A trader's mindset is different from a investor. I always believed that market discounts the future and every news is built into the price. So fundamental analysis is not a criteria for selection of a stock.

I like being methodical about my approach to anything related with this market and i like to have my decision points be crystal clear even before i take my plunge.

The most important factor in any Goal-setting is to set a date. So 15th December'2010 is when i will take my first pick.

Trade/risk management is a very big criteria for intraday trading but that needs to be toned down while wearing the investor's hat. New way of thinking has to be incorporated, so I have started this thread with the hope that we can harness some fresh ideas into building a good basket for the very long term.

Its a new avenue for me and all comments are welcome.

Criteria - I : Stock selection

I believe that instead of searching for a stock in a up trend, its better to search for a sector which is doing well and then find the stocks that are leading that sector. That way we can always be in sync with the market.

Sector rotation is always happens in phases and finding a sector which is under accumulation phase wont be that hard to find. After all, everything is there in the chart.

So first task in hand is nomenclature.

Sectors and the major constituents in that sector.

criteria 2 : Time

I am a day trader and by habit, i dont trade the first 15 min and the last 15 min of the market. So that time can be allotted to my stocks. First 15 min will be used to place stoploss for the day for the stocks at hand and the last 15 min is for entry and exit.

criteria 3 : Capital

I don't Have any intention to provide any separate capital for this venture. So the funds for this has to come from my intraday profit. 10% of my profit per day will be allotted for the future of my child in the form of this portfolio...

Objective is to make money with money earned from the market... This will create no pressure if the stocks selected perform badly.
