However ,

Now, Lets use good filters on this Thursday's Scrips for selection.
I know i am out of way,,,, but i think a filter is essential.

The old selection criteria are seen first then the filter.
So here is the filter:

Stochastics of 14,3,3. Only those scrips are chosen which show their Stochastics going in over bought area for the first time. Those scrips will be avoided which show their stochastics already in over bought area.

I hope this will pic winners.

thanxs
Winston

KEI is a good one. With copper prices falling & capacity expansion (including new facility for HT cables) kicking in since last qtr this stock is expected to do well. Has risen quite a bit though but still good buy on dips.

KALYAN

Disclosure : Personally hold this stk bought at 290 (before the 1:5 split).

Winstonn, please don't complicate this with too many indicators. I like it's KISS aspect. It's something even beginners can follow with ease. Not everyone understands RSI, Stochastic, MACD etc. I didn't when i started out 2 yrs back (and still wanted to trade, make money rather than just sit with books). So let's not spoil it's KISS aspect. At least let's try it out for sometime based on Price/Volume alone.

I was also wondering if you should consider a 15-20% rise over the week (till Thursday) for higher price/larger cap stks. It's a bit difficult for larger cap stks (even within the mid-cap space) to show a spike of 10% in a day, isn't it?

The disclaimer is perfect (only correct the typo in the last word!). Nothing more is necessary. People should have some common sense if they want to make money.

As for Agilent's concern about May type fall - i'd say when mkts collapse in that fashion, no matter what system you follow, there can be only one advice - SELL, SELL & SELL without second thought. Then again such crashes don't happen everyday but every 5-6 mths. So if one has made good money in the preceding months, based on ones trading strategy, there's hardly reason to grudge such one time loss (if any).
If one wants to be more careful then once you have made 30-40% on your investment take out your capital, put it in a safe instrument (like FD, PO acct etc.) and trade on the surplus earned from the mkt; that way you'd stand nothing to lose.
Also there are many good mkt-watchers in this wonderful forum (Winstonn himself being one of them with his EW expertise!) So if you keep an eye on these threads/posts you'll in all likelihood be forewarned and be able to get out well in time.

Cheers,
Kalyan.

May be you should consider when there is spike of 15-20% in a day and retraces 10% like KEI yesterday. Today it has given another 15%. and retraced 5%. Will this trend will continue?

Haha

One man's meat is another's poison.

Some will say ... BUY , BUY, BUY , when the markets are falling ( NK Panjiyar, a member, for instance, buys more , or accumulates, when a scrip falls 5 %; and sells only if it falls 18 %)

Wonder what the author of this thread has to say

Winstonn ( knock Knock ... are u there ? .. pl throw some light on this subject, going by your experience from the May/June '07 period .... we know u were not active on this site then , but still ... u may have been in the markets ... were u not ?

Fail to understand the logic of that
Off course he can afford to do that if he has bought the stk at much lower levels and is sitting on hefty profits

One explanation could be that he accumulates the stk on every minor correction and when the correction turns out to be a major one, he SELLS. If so, it doesn't contradict what i've said and it's also not easy (often impossible) to distinguish between a minor and a major (reversal) at it's onset. So the rule remains SELL, SELL, SELL once it starts going deeper than a minor.

There can also be different ways of concluding when it's no longer a minor. NKP is presumably an investor relying on FA So he uses the 18% rule. TA folks would look for a trendline brk, a brk of the previous swing low or impotant support or a close below a medium/long term MA etc., EW folks would look at vital changes in their wave patterns. - to arrive at the same conclusion.

As for buying, even from an investment perspective, I'd rather wait for the stk to bottom out before i accumulate, or buy in small lots everytime it falls 15-20% since you can never be sure where the bottom lies.
As a short term trader though i'd wait for the stock to move up from the bottom above a previous swing high/resistance zone and at the same time look for a host of other signals before i buy ('coz as a ST trader i can't afford my capital getting locked up for too long).
Again buying strategies can vary (just as the selling ones) based on the method employed.

Some investors (based on their reading of the long term bull cycle still being intact) book partial profits at higher levels and reinvest the sum at lower levels, thus reducing their avg cost of holding which is also an understandable investment strategy.

Regards,
Kalyan.

Good job Winstonn... seriously

For our additional benefit, maybe u can give the statistics behind the biggest two winners ( IDBI and TFC) so that we get better at picking stocks

And of course, u will test yr system for several weeks, wont u ?

Btw , u havn't told us how u coped in the May/June period ? (Why the studied silence on that ?)

Hi Agilent,

During The May / June Fall, There Were Hardly Any % Gainers Over 10%.
Also The Schochastics Were Not Moving In The Overbought Zone For The First Time.

And Abt Those Stock Whic Punlged , There Was A Stop Always.

Every Trader , It May Be Seasoned Or Newbee , Should Not Risk More Than 2% Of Loss Per Trade.

For Our System The Stop Is Below The Consolidation After The Big Gain Over 10%.

Hope This Helps............

Thanxs
Winston
