Hi To All,
This Post Might Be A Bit Misplaced........sorry.............m A Newbie And So My Query Might Sound Silly To Some...........kindly Ignore That And Reply.............

I Hear That We Cant Short Sell In Equities...............short Selling Is Possible Only In Derivatives In India.................is That True?????

u can sjort but u have to cover within intrday. in case u r unable to do so, u incur a 12% fine in the form of auction charges.

no carrying over shorts in cash mrkts.

In futs and options of corse u can.

U can short stocks in cash, in some of the broker houses and take home positions but double margin money will be blocked. U can,t squared off the position as per ur wish. It will be auctioned after three trading days, somehow in market price. Also some charges u have to pay for this as fine.

So better to avoid short delivery position , in cash market.

Do the brokerage houses provide auto square off feature by the end of the day, if the trader doesn't square off?

yes, many of them do, many dont. Like ICICI and indiabulls do square off by 3:15. where as 5paisa and angel dont.
