dear siva,
i have a few observations. may be considered if possible. 1) presently all the files (program, PB & EOD) are getting saved into the same folder. instaed, the default location of the EOD files may be in a subdirectory named 'EOD'. similarly, 'INTRA' files may have a default location in a sub-directory 'INTRA', when they are made. the PB files, which are critical, may be in another subdirectory, by name 'PB'. the program files may continue to be in the present folder 'yStock'. this will prevent accidental deletion of PB files and program files. 2) if volume is checked as default charting option in TA charts and ^NSEI is selected for charting, the program does not show the chart. ( obviously, nifty (& other indices will not have volumes.) you may think of overcoming the problem with logic and may not be by removing the volume from saving to the default options. ![]() 3) just like the option to view/hide tool bar, you may also provide the option to view/hide the status bar in the program, watch-list and the chart windows. this will increase the net viewing area, when required. all the best. #1. noted... for the program done ;-), for data download, will it be better to leave it as a user's choice, as it is now? I dont mind creating sub-folders. #2. I didnt get you. You mean not to save the volume as a chart preference? #3. Program status bar, readonly property at runtime... so NO. Watchlists & Charts - possible. yUpdates:- ...+ #Corrected a bug in handling filesize >32k in data download. Thanks to karthik for bringing this inthe chat session[usual variable declaration problem integer vs long ]#Trying asynchronous multi-threaded download, hopefully it will speed up the download. Hope to release an update this weekend, trying to avoid frequent updates. No other bugs !!??? Cant be. Regards Siva |

dear siva,
i further clarify as follows. Quote:

but, if you select volume as an overlay for indices, price-volume chart with overlays is NOT shown. so, only selected indicators are shown. this may be because the indices do NOT have volume. if your observation also is the same, you may read further. as you know, as per yahoo symbols nomenclature, all the indices will have '^' as the first letter and the stocks do not start with '^'. taking advantage of this, we may build a logic in such a way that if the first character of the selected item is '^', the saved options include volume overlay, the preferences before applying are modified to make the volume selection to 'NO'. by this method, we can have the same default set work for both stocks and indices, without any user intervention. it's good that we avoid frequent updates, to get better user confidence. and in the mean time, who knows, you may get some more suggestions from others and even me too. ![]() thanks for the user oriented program, it is developing into. all the best. dear siva,
when i include more stocks in the watch list, i get the error message "....................................." stocks validation test not passed. is it due to restriction on number of stocks/ their total length? if so, this limitation also may be overcome. some users may like to have say 200 stocks on list1, which he may run once before market starts. from list1 he may select say about 20 stocks as list2 for the opening hour to run every 5 Mins. his list3 may consist of a subset of about 5 stocks to be updated at 1 Min intervals. dear siva,
i was thinking whether it is possible to include a 'trend' field, that may be selected by the user as a column in the yStock. the trend is a field of five (or more) characters. each char will have a value of '+' or '=' or '-' depending upon whether the LTP for the stock is greater than, equal to or less than the value immediately preceding it. the latest trend will be to the LEFTMOST position. when a new refresh is made, the latest trend is added to the leftmost position and leaving the char in the rightmost position. by this way, when we add the sorting facility by each column, the stocks will be sorted based on the latest trends. on each refreshing of data from yahoo, this field also gets updated. typically, the trend '+++++' will indicate a positive trend, '-----' will indicate a down trend and '++=--' will indicate trend reversal and '=====' will indicate sideways movement. other values also can be correspondingly interpreted. if you need any further clarification, welcome. all the best. murthymsr |

you may think of adding EPS & PE Ratio. you may add Ex-Dividend data also, but i am not sure how latest that information could be. you may also think of adding a line in the readme.txt that the data is being provided as delivered by yahoo. please check authenticity of all data for yourself. Quote:
