Satish has been answering the queries which you have been posting in much better way then I could have done. Thanks a lot to Satish. And answering them again would have been a repetition.
Regarding the features that you are suggesting, lets take them one by one
1. Getting the volatile stocks from IB site, looks interesting, will explore the possibility.
2. Having a stock screener. You would have to be a bit more elaborate. What exactly do you mean by "A filter where we want to put in symbols for stocks that we choose".
3. Live charts, I don't think I can manage that as per my current knowledge.
4. Alert/ Pop-ups for price check, is a very good point. I will explore on this.
May be I will include two more columns to note the high and low till a user selected time. And then once we have break of these two values, a message box (I don’t like this idea as we may have more than one qualifying) or a special color coded column indicating the position should appear. The user will have to press the buttons at regular interval to note the price change.

And one more thing,
Patience is the most important thing required (after discipline) to succeed in Intraday's trading.

Best Regards
Coool.
Hi! Cooltetra,

Thanks for your reply. I was worried if I have posted something that I should not have. The thing is that I am just so excited by your spreadsheet that I try to post my messages as quickly as possible. I am a very sentimental & emotional person and would like not hurt anyone at all.

To get back to the features ...

1) Volatile Stocks
- If there could be filters like 5% - 10% / 10% - 15% / 15% - 20%

2) Stock Screener / Filter
- If we could have an option of choosing our own manually shortlisted stocks. For example, if I want to track Bombay Dyeing & Matrix Labs, then if we have the option to cut & paste the symbols of Bombay Dyeing & Matrix Labs, click on a button & the list throws up only those stocks.

3) Live Charts
- If it cannot be done, no problem

4) Alert/ Pop-ups for price check
- Please do whatever you feel is best

Once again, thanks a ton for everything from the bottom of my heart.

Thanks & regards,
Amit

yes, this is a very useful filter. this can be applied as an option to the EOD filter conditions already specified.

this, in my view is slightly more involving and calls for a deviation from the existing logic of selection based on criteria that can be drawn out from the EOD data. we may have to have a symbol translation table, one column of which will be named some thing like "INOUT". the contents of each cell in this column will be blank by default. user may be allowed to enter "IN" or "OUT" to include / exclude the stock irrespective of the 'selection' by the other criteria.

3) Live Charts
- If it cannot be done, no problem
doing may not be very difficult, but finding a source which gives 'live' charts is difficult. may be india bulls gives a chart that is about 3 to 5 minutes delayed, but it's symbol is neither NSE symbol nor Yahoo symbol. if we are having a the translation table, as mentioned above, we may have an extra column to contain the IB symbol and we may be able to get this charting, and may be even give an option to user to select the 'chart source' IB or Yahoo or some others that may be added later!

if anybody is aware of a free live chart source, link may be provided.

4) Alert/ Pop-ups for price check

i hope this may be possible. i would like a single pop-up window which gets refreshed each time an alert is made which will also display the symbols that have rossed the treshold levels, than color banding.

while on the subjext, it is preferrable that every body uses the excel sheet for at least a few days continuously and post a report on the errors noticed, if any. stability is more important initially than features. features can always be added later.

hope all will agree and post their observations, particularly reports on problems, if any.

appeal to Traderji,

can you please make the first post of cooltetra floating so that the first post with all the downloadable versions of software shall remain on top always?

while on the subject, may i also request you to look into the pros and cons of permitting the starter of each thread to make his first post (or any one of his choice) floating, if he wishes so? this is of great relevance to threads particularly in the software section where one looks for the latest versions of in-house developed software.

thanks for the wonderful experience of this forum.

Hi Amit, Murthy
We are going goooood.
One proposes an feature, the other proposes feasible way to do it. Looks like we are forming a good team.
Let's hope our efforts make CoolIntra a great tool.

Now let’s get down to work. The aim here will be to have a concrete, well defined feature's list on which the next version of CoolIntra will be based. Making modification in between is really very difficult. I would like to have a more structured wish list before I move further in implementing it.
Things that I can gather from your view and my inputs can broadly be put under the following groups:
1. Selection Parameters (The homework)
  • Currently we are using volume, price as filters. The swing((high-low)/close) *100 if added will help us get the once which are volatile the previous day. This one should be in the next version. I don't feel this will add any real benefit during the market hours. However, a new column indicating the difference between high and low can be added. I visited Indiabulls site and found the swing sheet as suggested by Amit. We can include the link or even the table itself into excel, but I think, adding/mixing that to the sheet is not adding any special value. It will only slow the application.
2. During market hours
  • Sorting, color coding, alerts/ pop-ups, %Gap etc.. The %Gap is a good addition. A new high low after 11, to be indicated by pop-ups etc. I have thought a lot about it and I think a better strategy will be move such scrip to a new sheet (the playground). The scrip in the master list, which make a new high/low are automatically promoted to the play ground. Also, the one breaking the pivot points should be included. The idea behind this will be to catch such scrip which have crossed their IR range. I guess, including the time such a promotion occurred will be valuable and should be a column in the playground.
  • The advance decline ratio I have promised to include in the master sheet, is sill pending. Sorry Murthy.

3. The result (After Market hours)
  • The result sheet will aim at analyzing the trade for the date. We will come to this in some later version.

Suggestion:
I would request those using CoolIntra, or planning to use it, to get familiar with FCharts. The reason I am requesting is a feature I have found in FCharts that I think we can exploit for real time charts. I am still experimenting with it and I think we can link the playground to FChart. If successful, I will be covering how to use that feature of FChart.

Request:
Please do provide your inputs on the new feature I am planning to include.

Best Regards
Coool.

Hi! Cooltetra,

If you believe that the features suggested are not going to be useful, please don't incorporate them. My suggestions were based on techniques used by other traders & thoughts that keep coming to my mind.

I sincerely believe that senior members who have been trading should give their suggestions as well. This would enable us to come up with a really useful spreadsheet that would be the best for intraday trading.

The playround sheet sounds like a wonderful idea.

A link for live intraday charts ...
Go to indiabulls.com
Go to Markets & Research
Go to Technical Analysis
Type in the name or symbol of the stock in the box at the bottom of the page
Click on Submit
Choose the NSE symbol
On the page that displays the chart, choose Intraday from the drop down menu that is there on the RHS beneath the chart.

I don't know if the live charts can be incorporated in the spreadsheet, but please check it out.

Will download FCharts today & start getting a han of it. Right now, I'm using Fibotrader.

Cheers & thanks,
Amit
