I recently had a problem with adjusting splits & bonuses and because of that, spent a lot of time in restoring my data to the proper state. I was also in touch with Robert at Fibotrader Support & he gave me a few suggestions that I would like to share with you. I would also like share my suggestions, which you may take or throw out of the window 1) My 1st suggestion would be not to run the automatic split search in Fibotrader & execute the same. The reason being, as Soumya mentioned above, there are certain stocks that Fibotrader does not calculate the splits correctly. What you can do is: a) From the NSE website (Corporate Action), get the data where the companies have announced stock splits & bonuses b) Look for the splits & bonuses that are not common (Cipla as an example) c) After manually adjusting the splits bonuses for the non common ones, then, run the scan in Fibotrader 2) If on the same date, there is a company that has announced a split in the ratio of 10:5 & a bonus of 1:2, the factor for the split would be 0.5 & the factor for the bonus be 0.66 Instead of creating 2 entries, what you can do is multiply the ratios, 0.5*0.66 = 0.33. So, you create just 1 entry with 0.33 3) When one adjusts for splits & bonuses manually, one can see the option to undo the split. If you create a wrong split by mistake, you can undo it. When Fibotrader executes a split automatically, you cannot see the option to undo it. To undo the split, one needs to enter the reverse split (e.g. 2 instead of 0.5). Internally no split entry is created. *** Points 2 & 3 have been suggested by Robert. Hope this helps you in the future ... Thanks & regards, Amit Last edited by gobatman2001; 12th September 2006 at 12:35 PM. |

Hi Soumya,
I did not mean to tell you that you should adjust the data for splits and bonuses. I was just trying to find out whether it has been done. If the data provided is 'as is' then I will be applying the necessary correction. Even if you answered no, it would have simplified my job because I would then know that I have to do it for all stocks. Otherwise I have to search each stock, verify it and do the correction. From your answer I presume that the adjustments are not done and proceed to do it myself. Thanks for introducing all of us to this wonderful software. -Anant |
