Shares Accounting Software for Tax and Portfolio Management

#1
Hi Group,

I have managed to write a small Java application for myself, after a lot of searching and evaluation of several software solutions, for recording my trading activity for reporting purpose and also to perform some basic portfolio analysis.

In the beginning all I was looking to develop was a way to import and record data from all the brokers that I deal with (5Paisa, Sharekhan, ICICI, Reliance). What I have now is a platform that can be customised, to import trading data from several brokers, perform book keeping activities, manage Stock Splits, Bonus Issues, Short Term, Long Term Profit and a few reports for tax reporting purpose.

I don't mind sharing it with anyone who maybe interested. As I am currently working on adding more features to it, I will keep posting the enhancements on the s/w in this thread.

The next things on my plan are:
1. Get Current Quotes (options are Yahoo and NSE. May not be able to support BSE just yet, as they dont allow direct data feeds for free)

2. Add Print Function. (Of course you can use the Browser's print function, but I haven't had the time to print a test page so will be doing that at some point).

3. Once some basics are up and running, I intend to develop some fundamental analytic tool, since after having looked at several of them, I feel a bit lost and therefore plan to create something that is usable for a layman.

4. Automate build and package.

Please feel free to ask for features if you think they will contribute to the objective of the software.

Does this look interesting ? Let me know...

Added : All the product files can be downloaded from http://sites.google.com/site/ruskportfolio/ProductFiles

29/Oct: An updated version of the product is available for download on the same site. New features have been added

Hi thanks
and nice to know that someone is really into that.
What you have explained seems good.
But can this also take care of futures and options and intra-day cash segment trans.. directly converting from contract notes?? so that a complete record can be maintanined and profit to be calculated.
Let me know when you can put this for download.

Yeah, Futures, Options, Intra Day cash and all possible nuances are developed.. Just to give you a flavour of it, for all practical purposes, Futures is just another type of script that maybe sold before it is bought. But that doesn't change too many things..

I like the idea of reading from a Contract Note. Will put this on the list of features..

As for the appl, its all ready, I just need to package it in some basic form so that you guys can install it without worrying too much about the variables.

I intent to post it here on before 2-Oct-09..

Thanks for the invitation. The topics you discussed so far make sense. In order to get to a common plan, lets touch base and exchange views on what we 've got so far and where we can get.

I am actually in the process of posting what I 've got.. Would appreciate if you could shed some light on what you 've got so far.
Regards
Rusk
