Beginner help on TA and resources for Metastock needed.

first of all, hello to all fellow members of the traderji community.
I have few questions regarding use of TA, and also about Metastock.
I have just started investing in shares and have heard a lot about TA and various softwares which aid in TA. Of these I have found metastock to be the most popular software for TA.
So I want to know that whether i need to have a background in TA to use metastock or not.
Also in the amibroker forum, praveen has posted a great thread where he has compiled all the amibroker related resources and tutorials at one place, So i just want to put forward a request to all the senior and able members to please compile one such resource for novice investors like me and others.
Another thing is that could anyone give me a link to some other thread or page aur explain here only various terms one should know to use these softwares like what is backtesting, backfill data, EOD data etc.
I hope that someone will take the pain to help me out.
