GUIDE PLEASE!!!Which is Right Platform for me??

#1
Friends,

I have urgent Requirement for my thesis... (Stock Return Predictability by measuring Supply / Demand)

My most basic requirement is that I want to Import Historical EOD data (3 year) from TXT/ CSV file with the fields like:

Date, Symbol, Open, High, Low, Close, Volume, weighted_price, Avg_trades, per_trade_qty and few more Fields.

(I know Amibroker can do this, but I have some limitation to not use Amibroker)

My Options are:

- MetaTrader 4

- MetaStock 11

- NinJa Trader 7

- Sierra Charts

1) Please Guide me, Which is right platform for me?

2) If it's not possible by default, is there any technical workaround or any sort of Hack you guys figured out?

Please???

Regards,
Ritu

1 metatrader is ok good for learning and free platform.
2 metastock 11 is a dead software in my opinion because no updates for several years.

3 ninjatrader good free, frequently updating, many advanced features used by professionals.. many trade rooms use ninjatrader.this is good trading platform for retail traders. order flow and volume analysis good tools available.

all these 3 TFs i used my first choice NT7 second MT4

siera i dont have idea.

why all we use windows where linux is better than windows.
we are forced to used to windows because lot of software is available.
like this ninja is having more supporting software than any other software

now ninja released NT8 much more advanced but no backward compatibility

ninjatrader can import metastock format and no csv.
if you want import fundamental data then metastock is better.
academic persepective metastock is good.
ninjatrader designed for trading only.

Just exactly what kind of research work would you accomplishing if you keep asking questions that in my opinion form heart-and-soul of any trading research?

Also, as any trader will attest to, one can have different answers to the same very question since the answer is also dependent on the stock, the exchange and computer hardware that you can get your hands on.

If you seriously want to understand any of the five trading software you've mentioned, you should seriously try out all five (and many more, if need be) rather than asking the Forum

I am not doing any academic research and I've tried close to 12 different TA software in time span of 5 years and even attempted to write one of my own.

Thanks for the Answer.

I wrote to metastock guys and they say that Metastock can only Import OHLC and Volume data from ASCII. And no fundamental data.

But if you subscribe their Feed ($25/ Month) then you can pull Fundamentals. But I am not ineterested in that granular fundamentals.

All I want to import is few years of EOD data consisting 3000 Symbols. All in one TXT file with below fields...

Date, Symbol, Open, High, Low, Close, Volume, weighted_price, Avg_trades, per_trade_qty and few more Fields.

So you sure i can Still do this in metastock 11?

That is interesting!

Can you Kindly share how can that be done?

Every time I need some data in Ninja and is not available directly in any of the Ninja source, I export it into CSV from a metastock format and then upload it into Ninja.

Does Ninja have Amibroker like MS.DLL data plugin that can read Metastock file directly without having to do the process of export/import?
