Default Spices View for 4-Oct 2007

Chilli : Chilli exports in the first five months (April-August) of 2007-08 grew at a staggering 86 per cent (in quantity) to 88,000 tonnes against 47,294 tonnes in the same period last year. Chilli till the arrival of new crop remains sidewat trend. New crop of Chilli will start
from the month of October. Spot market was steady. From October month
harvesting of new crop will start so supplies will be more that is the main reason October contract is gradually going down. Guntur warehouse depleting supported the prices at these levels.

Pepper:INR traded at 9 years high vs. dollar that might hinder
our exports in long run. Vietnam is not offering ASTA grade pepper as they are running out of the stocks. Pepper exports from India are at 6 years
high and all target set by Spices Board for exports is likely to achieve before timeline.

Cardamom: Cardamom arrivals stood at 52000kgs and despite of high arrivals market was strong by Rs.10/-. Third picking of cardamom haven’t started in full swing. Cardamom prices were up Vandanmedu as arrivals from new crop have started but not at its peak. Harvesting of new crop is delayed by a month and only 2-3 auctions taking place throughout the week. Cardamom main consumption in India is during the month of Diwali
and Ramzan Eid with production expected to go down.
