the RECESSION : alive & kicking

The heat of global economic meltdown is being felt by upcoming hotel projects in India. Some of these ventures r likely b delayed or put on hold. expect 20-30 per cent of the additional room capacity planned 2 b added by 2010 to b deferred by 2 to 3 years.

The pinch will b felt more by Indian real estate developers & foreign companies that had announced huge capacity additions in the country’s hospitality sector earlier this year. DLF, Unitech, Parsvnath Developers, EMAAR MGF r some of the realty players who have entered this segment.

the REAL MELTDOWN:

hedge funds seek absolute returns irrespective of how the markets behave................BUT

the year-2-date losses of hedge funds across regions & strategies is only 12 per cent whereas...India-specific funds have grossly underperformed, with a 53 per cent loss.....!!!!

Eastern Europe & Russian funds, with 47 per cent loss, r the second worst performers. The performance of India-specific hedge funds compares poorly with other hedge funds in the Asian region 2 whose returns range between 13 & 25 per cent...........

the lingering memories :

The maximum number of banks which failed in US’ history was during ‘1933 (4000 banks).... The next biggest bank failures were seen during 1989 (534 banks ).
