Expiry week : Which options are you looking at ?

#1
A lot of traders look forward to the expiry lottery in the last week of the series. I used to, then gave it up as a hopeless task for me. Then again I thought that maybe selling the option in the expiry week is the answer. This worked well for 2 expiries, and then the huge setback. So I gave it up.

But the fascination remains.

This week I am looking at Reliance 980PE/1020CE and Infy 1000PE. Just looking, haven't traded as yet. Maybe tomorrow or on the expiry day I will look at NF and BNF options too.

Which options are you tracking/ trading with a view to the expiry ?

expiry gambling , few months ago , bought a banknifty put option @ 9-10 rs , 1000 Q, waited for 6 hours as it was moving between 5 - 12 , then it started to move above 20 but as it was not moving above 50 and just 30 mins to close, sold @ 50 ,then bang 3-4 minutes later it hit 179 , RIP luck #@$%$#$#%$#$# :annoyed::mad::(

Have generally observed that options become volatile on expiry around 3 pm,and a huge volatile move comes around in 10-15 mins around that time.
A few months back had taken Nifty puts for around 3 rs , in a matter of seconds they blasted off to 22 rs,exited around 19 rs.

By the way the above trade lasted for only 3 minutes and the price crashed again to end at 0.05 in the next 10 minutes.

Extremely dangerous ,please take such trades only if you have the risk appetite for it.

TP bro

What you want to do, with these examples or with NF/BNF options
1. writing options (to eat premium)
2. buying options for a quick upmove or downmove pofit
3. buying or writing in pair (both CE and PE)
4. Or any other idea

I have not yet decided anything for expiry day :D
May be tomorrow during market hours or on DDay :)

Hi TP

Just a little, tiny input you may pick up once in the future if you want and have the time:

The question is only half asked, as not the expiry date is what should be thought of first instead " What strategy should or can I afford to trade on expiry week" ;)

Take care and all the best with this thread / Dan :)

not doing anything as yet, but I think that buying Infy 1000 PE + CE, when the premiums are down - say for Rs. 10 total, will give good returns.

Thanks Dan, but I mostly sit it out on the expiry days :) I haven't traded options for about 2 months now. Maybe June is a good month for it, maybe not :D
