Settlement of Call Option

#1
Hi,

I'm a newbie to FnO and just started couple of weeks ago. I have a peculiar doubt and not sure how stupid it is... :)

Scenario goes like this,

I bought SBI -CA -at strike price 2900 with premium 73 for 1 lot (125 stocks). So I paid 73*125= 9125 as the premium money to my broker.

After 2 days, I saw the same SBI with strike price as 2900 the premium shot up to 214 for 1 lot (125 stocks). I sold the same and got 145*125 = 18125

Now what should be left over in my account

1. Is it 18125?
OR
2. 18125-9125 (premium paid) = 9000

I'm really confused. Pls help me

Thanks,
GM

Anurag,

Don't confuse the issue here... he has mentioned it clearly that he bought the CALL for 73 But he saw it go upto 214, but at the same time he say he sold it for 145.

Wait for Gundumama to clarify as to whether there is any mistake in his typo or not...

u bought somthing fr 73 and sold the same fr 214. hence u will get (214-73)*125.

Gundumama,

Simply check your F&O Ledger.....

Day you bought the CALL @73 There must be a debit in your ledger
& there will be credit in your ledger on the day you sold it...

Difference of the two transaction in your ledger is your profit.

Oops.. Sorry its a typo...

Not 214, I went upto 145 and I sold at 145.. What should be my profit or loss?

Thanks a lot Savant!!

But the problem is its showing 18125 in my ledger.
I believe it should be 9000 (18125-9125)

I'm using Reliance Money. Does the settlement happens immediately or end of month?

Thanks,
GM

Gundumama,

Firstly, was the buy & sell executed on the same day or different days

Let's not use the word 'Settlement' It will be confusing considering it has different meanings at different times of trade...

for simplicity let's stick to BUY & SELL ...

Now, the question is did the BUY & SELL happen on the same day or different days.

Hi Savant,

Trade happened on different day.

Day 1: I bought SBI /2900 / CA / 73 @ 1 lot (125)

As per my ledger 9125 got debited

Day 4: I sold SBI / 2900 / CA / 145 @ 1 lot (125)

As per my ledger 18125 got credited

Apart from this some 500+ on account of brokerage + STT + bla..bla... got debited from my account.

I heard for all options the premium price will be taken by exchange. So in this case shouldn't I get only 9000 after deducting the premium of 9125 I paid during BUY?
