Thanks a lot Chintan. I have been looking for this quite a long time now.

Also found the vol/OI ratio quite unique & interesting.

Regards,
Kalyan.

By itself it may not mean much Have to use in conjunction with price movement & cost-of-carry.

can anybody explain how open interest is calculated ?

suppose I wite a call otion-> OI =1

If A buy that call -> OI=2

If A square's up -> OI=2(as A can square only when B buys that option)

is this calculation right?

waiting for explanation.

regards

Open Interest is the total number of outstanding contracts that are held by market participants at the end of the day.

Experts, plzz clear this for me.....

If open interest is showing 325950 for example of a certain nifty call,

As you people say, its the number of outstanding contracts, so is it 325950 lots (as in 1 lot = 50 Nifty) or is it 325950 Nifty itself as in 325950/50 = 6519 lots ??

OI is measured in contracts.
1 contract is of 50 NIFTY.
50 is the lot size for the NIFTY.

325950 are no. of contracts.
