query on option margin

Dear traderji members,

If I want to buy 1 lot of say nifty option, say 4700 call where the price is say 80rs and lot size is 50, do i need to have only 80*50=4000 rs in my account or like futures I need to have some margin money of the entire lot size, which would be something like 20000rs. I know one needs to put in margin while selling option, but in case of buying put and call, is any margin required?

You need to have 80*50=4000rs only in your account + brokerages and taxes ...

You don't need additional margin to buy Options cause u are not taking any liability here.
You will need margin when selling option as you (and your broker) are liable to pay to someone.

When u buy Futures, you will need margin as you are taking position to buy the full position at future date i.e. expiry date.
