Hi friends, plz help me. i hav trading account with HDFC and i need your help.
I will ask a series of questions under this thread.
1) I want to short sell a stock if i feel it will decline but my position will be automatically squared off at the end of day if i dont squared off myself.
Plz help me as short selling can be done under - margin trading ?
or cnc ( cash & carry trading) ?

2) If the stock price declines and i am at profit, how can i square off my position myself?

Anyone having trading account with HDFC plz help me out.

Thanks alot in advance. You all are very nice, helpful and cooperative.

hi sameer,
i am also doing trade with hDfc sec, i m not a complete adroit in hdfc sec,
i think i have some info which can help you.
1) you can short sell with both cnc & margin trading, In cnc i believe HDFC won't square off you position. but in margin trading they have every right to do so.

so suppose you hold a fund say 30k and you doing margin trading of 90k in whatever way (buy buying stock or short selling it) by the end of 2:55 pm
if you don't square off the HDFC sec automatically square off your position.
you will get an option to convert the trade in to delivery mode but you have to shell out more money i.e. 60k .

2) Yes, of course, by the end off 2:55 pm if you end up in profit HDFC will book profit for you. You can also square of whnever you want.

so whnever u go on short sell put a buy order based on profit you want.

I hope it helps .. other ppl plz advise !

Thanks for your reply but i hav confusions in the lines which r marked in red by me.

r u sure , we can short sell under CNC ( cash and carry)
as i knw , short selling is - selling a stock which u dont own but u hv to buy it later on .

CNC trades r meant to buy stocks whn u own 100% of the cash n u want to take delivery of stocks.

Margin trading is whn u can buy/sell by having a fraction of the full amount.

How can i get an option to convert margin trade into delivery mode ???

Margin trading is cash settled and there is no delivery or the delivery is only for 1 day , i,e intraday margin trading and you hav to square off by the end of the day before market closes.

Experts plz clear my doubts about this.
waiting for your reply.

Sameer,

I gather some more info about shor selling in HDFC sec,

I was also having misconception about CNC shor selling but my friend told me that you can go short only by margin trading not by CNC and you have to sqaure off the short position in end of the day ! HDFC sec doesn't allow to carry frwd your short position.

about second line only for margin buying you go to trade option there you will get option to convert in delivery mode.

Hi Ash , u mean to say that if i buy stocks under margin trading, then at the end of day , if i want to take the delivery of the stocks , so i can do that?

But , i hav heard that under Margin trading - all the trades are to be squared off by the end of each day. If u dnt square off your position then HDFC will be do that forcefully.
