Banks, sweating to mop-up their deposits from conservative investors, have a new adversary. In addition to capital protected funds and fixed maturity plans (FMPs), mutual funds are now lining up derivatives arbitrage funds.

Capital protection and arbitrage is all very fine , but why has no MF yet come out with a product that makes money on the way down. Don,t they believe that the markets would ever correct.

It would be a great way for retail investors not having expertise in derivatives or the time to trade actively to hedge their portfolios, or even take a short position.

Couldn't agree more with you Vince!! Benchmark Mutual had filed an offer document with SEBI for an Inverse Index Fund. Unfortunately, SEBI is still yet to take a decision on it.
