Somebody Explain this about Large Cap, Index and Small Cap

Index Funds largest returns last week around 4%
Large Cap Funds not so good returns around 2%
Small & Midcap funds negative returns around -1.5%

I understand that the Large cap funds need money to run their house but they eat up 2% or is it something else.

So from this I infer that index funds are good for short term gain since the exit load is zero after a few days, which are the best index funds. Is ICICI Prudential Index fund ok?
