Large cap Fund

Its interesting, that although everyone recommends to have big chunk of your holding in large cap, there are very few quality large cap funds around. Most of the equity funds are either midcap or multi-cap. I wonder if big chunk of portfolio should be made up of multi-caps instead...

Yes i also thinking in that way... Now most of the Multicap funds are doing well . Multicap fund really doesnt have any restriction while choosing the stock. they really hunt the oppurtunity and make the profit more... in that also we can have limit(by selecting) of mid and small cap to certain percentage...............Why dont we choose multicap funds as core holding instead of large cap always???.

Sure, you can pick up multi caps, which are also referred to as flexi-caps because the fund manager has much more leeway. However, at times when the midcaps holdings are high, some international news could put pressure on indices that might make the fund volatile. Remember, it all depends on your fund manager's awareness and foresight.
Typically if you have 5 funds, I would suggest to keep 2 large cap, 1 multicap, 1 ELSS or a balanced fund and 1 mid&small cap.

Why dont we choose multicap funds as core holding instead of large cap always???.
