SIP - direct or through broker ?

#1
I am new to Mutual Funds, want a bit of clarification.

I have decided to do a SIP of a fixed account in HDFC Top 200 (say)

I have a salary account in hdfc bank and demat acc with sharekhan.

1. is it possible to direct debit from my HDFC bank acc into SIP acc?

2. If above thing is possible, is it better to do that way or to transfer my funds to sharekhan and than SIP?

What are charges associated with both?

Kindly clarify.
Thanks.

I think its easy to open an account directly with hdfcfund.com which is the mutual fund arm. While setting this up, you should ask their staff about starting a SIP in not only HDFC Top 200, but in other funds as well. Once you set up your account with hdfcfund, you can make all investment decisions online 24x7 at your convenience.

There are mainly two methods of Mutual fund investment
1) DIRECT + Online
2) Broker + Online.

Both had its own benefits and defects. I just saw some useful links worth reading: http://mytipstowardswealthy.blogspot.com/2010/09/how-to-start-mutual-fund-investment.html
I'll strongly suggest going for DIRECT investment with AMC. The only pain you have to take is "Just visit their branch in your city for ONCE". Then you are master of own.

Never ever go through brokers.
Could you please tell me the demerits of DIRECT investment ???

Thanks for inputs.

direct SIP through AMC seems to be the best option.

Also, can SIP amount be raised for the month? like i think NAV is low and want to add a lumpsum through Direct AMC. I know its possible through broker.

btw how much are commissions % ?

# ICICI Direct charges Rs 33.09 for EACH SIP transaction every time.

# For a normal SIP you can not change the monthly contribution. But there is a product from HDFC AMC, called Flex STP, which works similar as you are asking. Means when the market is at lower level it will invest more than your specified SIP amount and if market if at higher level only the specified amount will be invested. The amount to be transferred under HDFC Flex STP from Transferor Scheme to Transferee Scheme shall be calculated as follows:

fixed amount to be transferred per installment or the amount as determined by the following formula [(fixed amount to be transferred per installment X number of installments including the current installment) - market value of the investments through HDFC Flex STP in the Transferee Scheme on the date of transfer] whichever is higher

Every month you can do a manual SIP, once you have a Folio number and Online PIN number.

I mean you just go to Online Site using PIN number as password, then go to purchase section and do purchase of the MF units.

I have tried with purchase, SIP etc in DIRECT mode.

I too have doubts, about stopping SIP. Is it possible via Online or should we need to submit a written request to the Fund house / CAMS / Karvy

Once you have the folio number with PIN/password then you can do everything sitting right from your home. Be it purchase or redeem.
