Axis equity fund

#1
Hi All,

I invested lump sum (Rs 5,00,000/-) in Axis equity fund during NFO (december 2009) now I know it wasn't a wise move but at that time I wasn't well informed and had an impression that NFO's are better than existing funds, anyways.

My question to u guys is should I stay invested (fund has given 9% returns in last 6 months) or switch to another/better/consistently performing fund.

What do u think is the future of the fund Good/Average/Below Average??

thanks in advance

Stay invested for couple of years and monitor the fund performance closely. If it's consistantly beating it's benchmark index and peers than stay put. If you withdraw your money now, you'll have to bear exit loads as well as pay short term capital gains tax.

Couple of suggestions from my side:
1. Instead of 2 yrs make it 1. After an year, as nikrod said, you don't have to pay any tax. Move your money to a better fund with proven track record. There are many good funds like that. If you have difficulty identifying funds, you can come back to traderji. Folks will definitely help you :)

2. I'm not sure what is your total target portfolio value, but break down 5lacs to smaller amounts, say 1+2+2 or 2+3 or 2.5+2.5 and invest in multiple funds. That will help you diversify

3. Your portfolio (I saw your post on some other thread where you said you have invested 3lacs + 3lacs +5 lacs lumpsum) seems to be very concentrated. You will need to diversify a little more. Add one or two mid-cap and small-cap funds (like BNP Paribas Select Mid cap). Add a sector fund. 4-7 funds in a portfolio is considered to be a good mix.

Hope this helps!
