Hi,
I started investing in 7 SIPs from Jan 2008 with 2000 Rs per month in each SIP.
All SIPs have been top market performers and now each SIP has given an abs returns between 30 to 50%

My question is should i sell them now and book profits or partial profits ?

Till what sensex price should i hold them if stock markets start falling ?

Its wise to continue till you need money. Also may re-allocate as per your assetallocation.

I started a few SIPs between September 2008 to December 2008. I am also sitting on decent unbooked profits.

Recently I have started to redeem money from some funds that invest primarily in small cap and mid-cap stocks because I feel that small cap and mid cap funds will suffer the most in case of any deep correction just as they did in 2008 and early 2009.

I believe it is impossible for me to perfectly time the market and exit at top. So I am willing to leave some money on table and lock in some gains. I learned my lesson the hard way after January 2008 correction.

Thanks. even i might go for partial profit booking.

What remains unanswered is there a ballpark figures on how these investments will take a hit if the sensex goes down by 1K, 2K points ... in the future.

For eg:
i started investing in SIPs from Jan 2008 and the sensex has moved up in a certain way for the last 50 months.
If it moved down in the next 6 months how will it affect the SIPs. Is there some simulator or graph that can be plotted for the same ?

Completly agree with TFL. the purpose of SIP is to capture upturns & downturns of market & provide cost averaging over time. Do not think of SIP from trading prospective. you should only book profits to rebalance your portfolio or if your goals for investment are nearing.

But if the market dips, all the profits earned during the past will be leveled out right. So some level of profit sharing should be done ?

Also can you elaborate on rebalancing the portfolio. What does it mean !

When to stop SIP depends according to your financial planning. For example, your plan was to invest in SIP for 5 years then continue till that time forget about markets ups and downs.
