CNBC TV 18 Fixed Deposit

#1
Hi,

Ive seen that TV18 has started to issue Fixed Deposits at 12%. I want to know how safe is this as I plan to invest 5-10 lakhs in this. I think the rates are very decent but I am just not sure about the safety.
Please comment on this....

Thanks

Banks are doing 6.5-7.5%, post office 8%, some better corporates (Tata Motors, Mahindra Finance, LT debenture issue) 8-8.5%. Why does CNBC have to offer so much more? I would be extremely careful about investing in any FD offering >9%. I have learnt painfully that there is no free lunch - I guess my risk tolerance is not very high.

Generally, higher the interest rate, higher is the risk. You should analyze the company before investing into the same. In this case, it's CNBC-TV18, which is a media company. Media companies in general are capital intensive and ROI is not consistently great. If they are paying you more interest as compared to banks, it means that inherent risk is higher.

Also, this happens to be the maiden offer (unless someone corrects me). Without a track record, all you can do is speculate. If you are interested in a high yield corporate FD, please have a look at Shriram Transport Finance Unnati Deposits which give pretty decent returns.

Happy Investing !!

Disclaimer: I have invested a decent amount in STFC Unnati and believe that the fundamentals of the company are good enough for me to recover my capital
