Should I sell JM Basic Fund

#1
Hi,

I have invested in JM Basic Fund (G). I had bought 753 units with the unit price of 39 Rs in Dec 2007. Now the current NAV is 19 Rs. I can hold this fund for another year. What are the prospects ? should i hold or sell?

Thanks

You have bought almost at the peak and it will take time to return to that level.
Better to hold at least until it reaches near your buy price which could happen by April.

Thanks for reply.

I had this bought when market was on 21k mark , Would NAV price reach around 39 Rs when market hits 21k mark again because as of now the market is near about 17 k but NAV price is almost half of 39 Rs . It has not gained much.

Thanks

Very difficult to answer that since the fund manager could have changed the holdings, and performance will depend on him more than the Index. There are lots of funds in the red when the market goes up.
Even though the index is near it's old peak there are still many stocks which are not even half of their old peaks.

JM is the worst performing fund now according to assessment by various agencies like Value research, Myiris etc. Better to redeem it now and invest in a better performer like HDFC Top 200 or Reliance Reg. savings Equity .
I recently offloaded mine ( bought at the same time as yours).
