Default Folio no. or Account No. for MF

Hello,

There are lots of websites which allow people to have their portfolio of stocks and mutual funds online. This allows users to have a one click view of there asset positions. I was trying to add the Mutual Funds I have invested in but these sites ask to enter Folio /account no. of the mutual funds with the rest of the fields.

Just want to know is it a good idea or is safe to mention a Folio no./account no. on such websites. My idea is to have a one click of NAV's whenever I want to.

Please advice

Is there any freeware to track the mutual fund growth and investments?. I know that netstock and medved quote tracker are good for stocks, but I am not aware of any software to track the mutual funds performance.

Let me know if some one know of any freeware for this.

Balaji.

Harjit, please don't give your folio/account number on line to anyone. As mentioned earlier. the Portfoluio Tracker on ValueResearchOnline.Com is pretty good.....gives you a whole lot of informatin and analyisis of your mutual fund investments. Details of Folio/Account numbers are not require to be given there.

Hi Robbie

What is the significance of this MIN. Is this something to do with Tax like the PAN is being used for. How this will help the Mutual Fund houses.

A person having MIN need not submit all the documents to different MFs everytime he chooses a new fund house. Obviously, this will save the cost of paper handling for the MFs. It'll also help tax authorities/regulators/market bodies in collecting info.

Why don't they use a single thing like PAN for every thing. MIN is nothing but a escape route for big player from TAXMAN.

From what I have understood you need a MIN to execute a single transaction for Rs 50000 or more, although I can make any number of transactions for values less than 50k.

Am I right ?

This happens only in India because India is ruled by morons. PAN is not considered adequate for the reasons best known to SEBI officials.
