Select any good Diversified Equity Funds for SIP.
I have never done a SIP so dont' know what i suggest would meet your requirements but just to share with you here is what i have in my portfolio with some similar options my investment is not SIP offcourse

Sectorial
ICICI infra/ DSP (T.I.G.E.R.)/Reliance Power these are very aggressive and last year growth was great.
Sundaram CAPAX

Equity Diversified
Magnum Contra (all time favarite)
Reliance Vision
HDFC Equity

Balance
HDFC Prudence (good performance in balanced category)

I am very bullish on Oil and Natural resource sector.. but don't do a SIP in any sectorial funds or NFO.
thats what is my advice others may give you their pick here.

Thanx surfingminds for your quick reply... can you tell me reason for your suggestion against moving into sectorial funds. NFO's are understandable.

Lightbulb New Investment Help

Hi

My dad wants to invest in Mutual Funds starting next month. He'll be investing Rs. 2 Lakhs initially and has a long term outlook (5-10 years and more, if needed). He already has enough of FD/Insurance and I don't think its necessary for him to invest in Debt Funds. I've advised him to invest the entire amount in Equity and Balanced Funds. According to me these are the funds and allocations he should consider -

HDFC Prudence - 40K
Birla Sunlife Equity - 40K
Reliance Growth - 30K
Magnum Contra - 30K
DSPML T.I.G.E.R. - 30K
Kotak Opportunities - 30K

I've also advised him to go by SIP route (6 installments/fund) starting next month itself and continue till July 08. I would like to know if the above selection of funds and allocation is good enough and reasonably risk free. I don't want him to blame me later for giving him a wrong advice. Please help.

Default Help me also........urgently!!!

Hello!
I am 32 yrs old & can have above average risk, horizon is 3-4yrs.
I have invested as under
Rs 25000 HDFC Prudence
Rs 25000 Sbi Magnum Contra Gr
Rs 10000 DSPML TIGER Gr
Rs 5000 Kotak opportunities Gr

Rs 1000/mo SIP Tata Infra

Rs 10000 Birla Tax Rel 96 (ELSS)

Is this portfolio tilted/biased towards any capitalization/theme/sectors or you think it fulfils my needs?
Do I need churning my portfolio for future investment? I have ~ 50k to park.
Also, I want to seek comparative views b/w Birla Sunlife Equity & DSP ML Equity.
Do I need to add one of these to my kitty.
Plz do post a comment on this portfolio.

Your views will be very very useful.
Hope 2 hear from you all soon!

Your equity picks are good. One minor change would be merging DSP ML Tiger and Tata Infra. 2 funds are doing the same thing. So you could hhave just one

Redeem only if you need the money or if your funds are performing bad for about an year, else remain invested.

Performance wise... absolute returns both are almost the same. DSP ML Equity has a slightly higher risk adjusted return than Birla Sunlife Equity.

Portfolio wise Birla Sunlife Equity does has a comparatively large cap tilt.

Both are multicap funds, but one thing i like about DSP ML Equity is it has been consistantly above average. ITs never a top performer and never and average performer. It always maintains that above average line.
