Two or three reasons:

Index funds aren't pushed since there's no load and hence no incentive for agents to recommend the same.

In India, at least over the years that index funds have been in existence, they don't seem to have outperformed actively-managed equity funds. I know that the theory is that in the long term no one can beat the market (i.e.) index funds. But so far and in India that isn't the case.

No dividend.

Hi!
If you invest online through a 'broker' e.g. ICICI-Direct etc, entry load will be charged each time you have an additional purchase even.
Only 'Direct' investments on-line/off-line are exempt from entry load.

You are right , this not much difference in any any of the above funds.

Franklin Prima Plus, Dsp Ml Top 100 and HDFC Top 200 are all large cap funds. You can pick one among the 3.

Birla Sunlife Frontline Equity & Tata Pure Equity are diversified funds with large cap bias. Birla Sunlife Frontline Equity would be a better choice.

You can consider adding one multicap fund apart from these 2 like dsp ml equity or birla sunlife equity.

If you want an aggressive portfolio you can add an oppotunistic fund like Kotak opportunities or Reliance Growth.

If you want a defensive portfolio you can add a balanced fund like HDFC Prudence.
