Default Debt Funds

Hi All,

I am new to MF and benefited a lot by reading this forum.

I am planning to invest around 5 lakhs in mutual funds. After reading some posts here and valueresearchonline, the general advice would be to put the money in a short term debt plan and initiate a STP to other large cap/multi cap funds.

Could you please advise some debt funds which i can use to initiate STP.

Thanks
Senthil

If you have an idea to first put money in debt fund and then systematically transfer to other large cap/multi cap funds by STP, only due to heavy burden of entry load then think over it, as it is not the case now. Applying directly to the AMC doesn't charge any entry load and systematic SIP can also be useful.
Even if you want to invest in short term debt funds there are good funds like 1)Birla Sun Life Short-term 2)ING Income Short-term 3)Reliance Short-term 4)Tata Short Term Bond 5)HDFC HI Short-term etc.

Default Debt Funds and Interest Rates

Hello,

I am planning to make new investment into debt funds - keep new money away from equities until the dust settles. How do they get impacted by interest rate cuts - there is 50-50 uncertainty over whether RBI will cut, and also whether US Fed is going to cut again (does US interest rate directly affect Indian debt market?). Please advise.

Funds under consideration are:

HDFC Cash management fund - ultra short term/money market
Reliance Floating rate fund - short term (ave. maturity 0.57yr)
Kotak Flexi Debt - short term (ave maturitu 0.67yr)

Thanks,

-- Milind

Default Debt Funds and Interest Rates

My question is specific to impact of interest rate cuts on debt instruments, specifically used by the funds I mentioned. In general, interest cut increases value of the bonds and uptick of interest causes a fall. However, depending on the nature of instruments used, I am not sure if the there is an impact on the performance of debt funds of various maturities.

You couldn't really escape from entry load by first putting money in liquid fund and then moving to equity fund - anyway, a moot point post-Jan 4.

Default Debt Call

I believe in keeping 60% of my savings in equity funds & 40% in debt instruments. Till now I opted for PPF & Bank FDs for the latter. I want to review my debt instruments for future investment & see good opportunity in debt related MFs, though little riskier choice than FDs. Somebody plz suggest me which instrument has which pros/cons. How these can be arranged acc to risk/returns they carry?

Debt Funds—short term/ultra-short term/long term
Gilt Funds
Debt oriented Hybrid funds
Fixed Maturity Plans
Any others?

Your suggessions will be very helpful.

Hi,

My favorites are those two, because there is no minimum holding period to avoid exit load, and returns are good for low risk profile.
Reliance Floating Rate fund
Kotak Flexi Debt

Birla Sunlife Income provides higher return at somewhat higher risk. Would like to know if anybody has invested in this one. But holding period of 1 year.

You could also do a good balanced fund like HDFC Prudence which includes some debt portion.
