Public Provident Fund - PPF

How much, and how often can you invest in a Public Provident Fund - PPF account?

During a financial year, you can contribute a minimum of Rs 500 and a maximum of Rs 70,000. If you are putting in money in instalments, remember that you can't make more than 12 instalments a year. There's more flexibility in the scheme: unlike a bank recurring deposit, you don't have to deposit the same amount every month -- you can put in Rs 2,000 in one month, and Rs 58,000 in another.

Can i invest in more than 12 instalments in a year ?

# Every company has their own PF numbers for each employee. So when you change a job, you have to either apply for transfer of your previous PF a/c to your new PF a/c OR you can withdraw/close the PF in previous company. So as i have already experienced the 3yr gap for PF transfer from one a/c to another, I'm now opting for withdrawal/closure of my previous PF a/c

# Now in my present job, my company crediting my PF contribution to a new PF a/c

# I heard if applying for complete withdrawal/closure after 2 months, then there will NO tax deducted. So its better/wiser to apply after a 2 months gap
ca u please reply to this old question of sum1, just for knowledge sake, it started on page no8. thanks

Dear R.S.G

Presently, the interest rate on PPF account is 8% pa, and from your info it is cleasr that 2 months interest has bee credited to your account. It is absolutely fine. Enjoy the savings !

I have opened PPF accounts for my minor son. He has become major. I kept his account open and met requirement of 15 years term. Now if I want to close this account what do I have to do?
Since my son is adult, do I need to convert account? If so, where can I get the forms? My son is abroad, how can I close this account?

Your help on this wil be highly appreciated.
