Default HDFC Mid Cap Opportunities Fund

Any suggestion/views on HDFC Mid Cap Opportunities Fund.

What is the prospect of mid caps in the current market.

Also, is it better to go for a close ended or open ended one since the entry , exit load for close ended is 0. ( I have no problem in remaining invested for 3 years).

I think you can skip it for now since there are open ended mid cap funds like franklin prima with a proven track record.

I think HDFC is a very good AMC house. Though, past performance of a fund matters; I think HDFC mid cap will give you good returns over a period of 3 years. Remember, it is a 3 year lock-in fund.

Its a new fund so see if it is really giving something better than other time tested funds. There are many top performing open-end mid cap funds. I dont see any advantage of choosing HDFC mid cap over other ones. May be over a period of time this new fund's performance may be good. But if its bad you cannot exit before 3 years. Also dont make a decision based on loads, because they can be changed later on by the AMC. You can choose from existing funds like birla mid cap fund, sundaram bnp select mid cap, reliance growth, franklin india prima and others.

Hi

This is closed ended Mid cap oriented scheme, So expected returns are excellant, Though I am not a fan of NFO in MF but still seeing the AMC and objectives of the investment I would like to recommand this to subscribe.

one more reply the earlier reply by Alok : What is means by "it is a 3 year lock-in fund."

Let me clarify, This is not an lock-in period of three years, There is difference between close ended and Lockin period.

Lockin Period is applicable for ELSS schemes only, Not in close ended schemes, During this lockin period no one allows to withdrawn the money in any condition. Only if the investor is died then his nominee can withdrawn the money before maturity. Even AMC's can not able to open the scheme for sell

In Case of close ended funds AMC has the rights to open the schemes for buy or sell. In the Many AMC opened there close ended schemes even within years for buy or sell with chargeing the higher Entry/Exit load, Generally these schems gets open for short duration if they open and again closed for the buy and sell..

I guess you understood the difference between Lock-in and closed ended schems

Pawan

I used Lock-in word because, for 3 years you will not be able to sell it. After 3 years it will be open ended scheme. Anyway!
