i would like to make a career in selling mutual funds
can anyone guide me as i am new

To be able to sell mutual fund , you need to have AMFI Mutual Fund Certification. Refer to http://www.amfiindia.com for more details.

Once you clear the AMFI Advisors module and register with AMFI you can sell any mutual fund. You get an ARN No from AMFI that must be quoted in the application of the mutual fund you sell.

I was in the impression that one would have to register again with individual mutual fund companies quoting the ARN number- Once accepted they would permit to recommend/sell their mutual funds

you're right.....one has to get empaneled with each AMC for selling there funds..
some BMs will give you target for first six months...

w/o enpanelment you wont get commission.....

One more competitor

depends on various schemes ranging from 1.5% to 2.25%....and NFO
attracts quite good ranging from 3%-5% also if huge amount brought
under then special gift vouchers like trip to malaysia, shopping vouchers
etc etc....depending on AMCs and schemes nature..... Equity schemes
attracts good comm. as compared to Liquid ones...

About Initial investement, will have to pass AMFI exam. The fees for this
can be found at www.amfiindia.com. This is minimum initial investment. Then
to get investment from client, you will need to run, so petrol cost and other
expenses like managing clients portfolio etc etc....want to setup and office
then office expenses....but this business can be operated from home easily
