"Visual Strategy Trader" platform for MetaStock.

#1
This is my first post to this forum but I have visited several times looking for different types of indicator code.

I recently downloaded the VST for Metastock and it is a quick way to test systems and gain a fast visual result.

The VST is free to download and the code is open.

I have started a blog VST Charts
The blog was started to keep track of my charts and allow other interested traders the opportunity to view them.

The user can enter the entry/exit code or an indicator that plots a 1 and -1 .

The VST is free and easy to use and the download links are on the blog.

I have placed a post on my VST Charts blog using the "VST" ATR band strategy with the S&P500 chart.

In the next few days I will post some info on testing your own entry/exit formula on this forum thread.

hello patchau

Did you try the VST pro ? is the worth the USD 2500.--.

The thing that disturb me is that the stategy is not fix so you have to adjust depending on the stock.

What is your opinion on it

Hi Chris,

In reply to yor questions..............

"Did you try the VST pro ?" Yes, I did purchase the VSTpro.

" is the worth the USD 2500.--." For myself the VSTpro is a very useful and performs many tasks quickly and gives a almost instant visual result.

"The thing that disturb me is that the stategy is not fix so you have to adjust depending on the stock."
Not all stocks perform the same and have different risk levels so it is more about managing risk for an individual stock rather than a group. Requires more effort on the traders part but could be safer with better results.
Applying one rule to all stocks may be helpful to some but costly to others.

"What is your opinion on it" This platform would not be suited to all traders.

Later today or tomorrow I will post some charts to the VSTCharts blog on the "Clear method" that may be of interest.

Re: "Visual Strategy Trader" platform for MetaStock.-some queries...

Hi,Patchau,
I went thru your VST charts/blog and the strategy is admirable.

"The user can enter the entry/exit code or an indicator that plots a 1 and -1 ."

Only one thing I am unable to know is at what EXACT price one can enter, buy or sell,if screening the Indian stocks on EOD basis?,as stated in your post?

Most of the times, due to _1 day input, the data may be (deja vu)not coincide with tomorrow's BUY or SELL.i.e the price has already crossed the buy/sell level as indicated from the screener.

So how to get the next days exact BUY/SELL price/levels?
Pl.inform...

Hi earthy8,
The VST Custom Strategy is best used to test an indicator as it will give an almost instant visual picture of the results.

By changing the make-up of the indicator ( if it has Moving Averages, may be change a 10 sma to 15 ema) then refreshing the chart will show the results of those changes.

Most indicators are lagging the current data, and most systems and indicators require some further investigation and input by the user to enable them to be useful to the trader.

What I prefer is a full mechanical system with no user input, simple as possible with reasonable returns.

Spending some time using the VST band entry/exit to check what combination of numbers works for different stocks can be helpful.

If you are trading using an indicator then most likely you would require something to confirm the trend short or long term. Eg. Trend line or a Moving Average.

Traders are always using indicators and levels to enter/exit the market so looking for different types of entry can be be an advantage.
