The Open Chart feature in The Explorer will load the Smart Chart that already exists for each of your charts.
To make all of your charts open with a specific Template, simply delete the Smart Chart that already exists for each chart and replace it with the Template containing your Technical Indicators.
If you only have a few existing charts you can replace your Smart Charts manually as follows:
1. Start MetaStock.
2. Click File | Open.
3. Highlight the first security you want to open, and click Open.
4. When you load this chart apply your template to make this chart look the way you want all of your charts to look. Or else manually change this chart to make it look the way you want all of your charts to look.
5. Then click your Right Mouse button on the background of this chart. When the menu appears select Save As Default Template.
6. Now any new chart you open will look exactly like your default template.
Your charts are not new charts so you will open your charts as New charts as follows:
1. Click File | New | Chart.
2. Highlight any chart and click Open. This chart will open and look like your Default Template.
3. Click File | Save As.
4. Change the save as type to Smart Chart (If using 6.52, Click Save As Smart Chart, to place an X in this box), and click OK. A message will ask if you want to replace your original Smart Chart. Answer yes.
If you have a lot of original files you may want to delete all of your Smart Charts at one time. You do this as follows:
1. Click Start | Find | Files or Folders.
2. Type MSSmart into the Name field
3. Set the Look-In field to the drive you want to search. For example you would set it to C: to search your hard drive.
4. Verify that Include Subfolders is checked
5. Then click the Find Now button. Windows will now search your hard drive and display a list of every folder that contains the folder named MSSMART.
6. Click Edit | Select All. This will highlight every MSSMART folder listed in the report.
7. Then click File | Delete and this will delete all of your Smart Charts.
8. Close the Find menu and start MetaStock again.
9. Run your Exploration and use Open Chart. Because your Smart Charts were deleted each chart will now use the Default Template, which you set to look like your own template, and your charts will open with the look you want.
Note: if you change indicators simply create a new Default Template using your new indicators and delete your Smart Charts again.
