re: Day trading Nifty & Banknifty Futures

A question to BNF daytraders :

1) generally NF daytraders use SL between 10 - 20 points , how much SL you use in BNF mostly , as it can takeout low SL frequently.

2) in NF intraday I use capital 50k per 1 lot , what should it be for BNF intraday per lot ?
Am not trading in BN intra...but testing it live ...IMO its need @least 40-60 point initially also it depends on ones method too...low sl will make noises also it make higher trades ...using 1lac for 1 lot is good....my views
Best is to keep 3 times of whatever you do with Nifty Futures. So in your words, SL anywhere between 30-60 points (depends on the set up).

Same with the capital. 3 times !

BTW, this is safest according to me. One can trade 1 lot even with 10k. There are smart brokers luring people to do that but you know what happens to such traders ;) :D
for BNF ..I keep filter 5 points, from buy above and sell below area (whereas in NF it was 3 points) and another 5 points between SL and trigger price

SL - 50 points from entry point.

capital per lot is 50K
Hi Ravi...
1) Actually SL is depends on individuals trading system, strategy and risk appetite but my standard SL is 25 points for BNF these days.
On some trades it varies between 20 to 50 points range, but if SL goes above 50 points then I simply wait for another low risk opportunity.

2) I think 50k per lot is enough for trading BNF purely Intraday provided one should have good Intraday trading strategy
which keeps his risk under control.
Well, everyone's view is respected but somehow I highly disagree with 50k/lot for BNF.

Here is my reason (and one can disagree with this, no harm :) -

Let's say the minimum SL is 30 points (as most of you agree). You have another burden of at least 5 points/lot of brokerage taxes etc. So it's 35 points risk/trade/lot.

Now, imagine your continuous 10 trades hit SL. Not necessarily in single day but over a bad week, it is very common to have 10 bad trades.

How much do you lose ? - 35*25*10 = 8750. This is 8750*100/50000 = 17.5% loss of your capital. Now think, just one bad week can make you lose 17.5% of the capital. It is disastrous.

I'm considering a very bad week in this example but in my opinion, even a worst week shouldn't have more than 5-10% loss. (this is considering 1-2% risk/trade strategies which is suggested by almost all the gurus/big traders around the world)

Again, this is my opinion. It's a free world so everyone is entitled to do what they think is right for them. :)
for reference , thanks to all for your valuable opinions
